Scans have confirmed that Greater Western Sydney co-captain Callan Ward ruptured his ACL against Geelong on Saturday and is set to miss the rest of the season.
The 29-year-old will meet with surgeons on Monday to map out his rehabilitation program.
Having missed the start of the season with an MCL injury to his right knee, Ward was playing his first game for the season when his left knee gave way as he tried to twist and avoid Geelong opponent Gary Ablett’s tackle.
He left the ground immediately before sitting on the sidelines in a knee brace with crutches by his side. Ward was emotional as the reality of the injury began to sink in, and he broke down.
