Four men have been arrested and charged in Sydney after police seized nearly $400 million worth of ice in a container that was declared to contain clothes.
The men — aged 33, 35, 36 and 55 — were arrested on Thursday after Australian Border Force officers discovered six of the 10 pallets inside the container held 500 packages of a white crystalline substance at the Sydney Container Examination Facility last month.
Forensic analysis determined the packages contained 500kg of methylamphetamine, which has a potential street value of $375 million.
The arrests follow the efforts of NSW Police, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, the NSW Crime Commission and Western Australian Police Force who all last year established Strike Force Ferguson to investigate an international criminal network involved in the supply of illicit drugs.
The investigation was also assisted by the Australian Federal Police.
Three of the men were refused bail and are expected to appear at Sutherland Local Court later today.
